The beginning of "Palang Jai Manarom Foundation"
In 2003 Dr. Chantima Ongkosit established Manarom Hospital with a multidisciplinary team of senior psychiatrists. Since then the hospital has been providing quality psychiatric services to the Thai people with heartfelt dedication and determination.
It took Manarom Hospital 12 years of work to successfully achieve the goal of being the top innovator and developer of psychiatric services in the country. In that time the hospital has also played a role in overcoming cultural misconceptions and unfair attitudes towards psychiatric patients. In 2018 the hospital decided it was time to go a step further by providing their knowledge and expertise to the underprivileged as well. And so the "Palang Jai Manarom Foundation" was established on May 9, 2018 with a registered capital of 500,000 baht with the ambitious intention of providing quality help to disadvantaged people with autistic, psychiatric, and cognitive disabilities. This group has historically faced many problems ranging from lack of self-help, low occupation prospects, low income, and inability to access treatment. Some with chronic illnesses are rejected and abandoned by their families. Many lack social and interpersonal skills causing a lack of job opportunities and paths to personal development and growth. This is not only a burden on their families but ultimately on society as a whole both directly and indirectly.
The Foundation therefore initiates projects and activities to assist poor and disadvantaged people with psychiatric, cognitive and autistic disabilities. The foundation strives to meet their needs and necessities by considering such things as:
- The "Life Capital Project" supports vocational training, under Section 35, for people with psychiatric, cognitive, learning disabilities and autism by acting as a medium of connection between psychiatric patients with special needs and organizations. The project serves to select, promote, develop and enhance the work potential of psychiatric patients with special needs by matching the aptitude of the recipient with the needs of each participating organization. Recipients are supported with vocational training, living skills such as daily self-care, socializing, money management and ongoing care.
- Fund to help support hospital operations and projects in the government sector that help impoverished psychiatric patients to be successful, including aid for psychiatric patients who suffer from homelessness or neglect, as well as occupational support.
- Fund for helping provide disadvantaged people with medical equipment, school supplies, occupation equipment and home improvement to meet their needs.
- Supporting religious organizations and disaster relief such as donating to help flood victims in the southern region with the Thai Red Cross Society and donating to Kathin temples in Lampang and Nakhon Nayok provinces.
The foundation strives to give hope and opportunity to those in need. Anyone can help donate funds to support the projects and activities of the Palang Jai Manarom Foundation to give better physical and mental health to disadvantaged people with psychiatric, cognitive and autistic disabilities. The foundation works to help recipients receive continued care and treatment so that they may live more independently with dignity and with a better quality of life. They are given the opportunity to develop their potential to work in various professions and attain greater financial stability. This gives rise to faith and confidence that they have not been abandoned by society, but instead have been offered help and opportunities to stand on their own as well as encouraged to be determined to develop themselves.
